Updates to the Laws of Cricket – 2022/2023

Certain changes have been made to the Laws which take effect for the 2023 season.

The most significant of these include:

  • The new batter faces the next delivery when a batter is out caught, regardless of whether the batters have “changed ends”.
  • The “wide” law has been updated to reflect batters changing stance substantially while receiving the ball.
  • Saliva cannot be applied to the ball at any time (most leagues have applied this law as a league regulation since 2020, including the MCCL).
