Scorers’ Development

The ECB Scoring Pathway is open to all Scorers.

The diagram below shows the different levels of the ECB Scoring Pathway

Team Scorer (S5) accreditation

In order to obtain the level of Team Scorer (S5), the scorer must evidence the following:

  • Completion of the ECB Scoring Course
  • Completion of ECB Safeguarding – Level 2 module.
  • Be a Full member of the ECB ACO.

The competencies required to meet Team Scorer (S5) can be found here: S5 Competencies

Achievement of the S5 grade is available at any time and will be managed by the ECB Officiating Department.

Progression along the Pathway

To progress beyond Team Scorer (S5), scorers must be full members of the ECB ACO.

Scorers seeking progression beyond Team Scorer (S5) are required to complete the Scorer Expression of Interest for Promotion form.

Team Scorer (S5) to Recreational Scorer (S4)

In order to obtain the level of Recreational Scorer (S4), the scorer must evidence the following:

  • Having scored a minimum of 7 (seven) games in the current season
  • Completion of the Scoring Techniques Educational Session.
  • Completion of ECB Safeguarding – Level 2 module.
  • Completion of the Duckworth Lewis Stern (DLS) Educational Session.

The completion of these educational sessions must be within 3 years of application for promotion.

Scorers must also meet the required competencies for Recreational Scorer (S4), which can be found here:  S4 competencies

The scorer applying for promotion is responsible for ensuring that evidence of meeting the above criteria is sent to the County ACO Lead Scorer – Development

Recreational Scorer (S4) to Representative Game Scorer – Recreational (S3)

In order to obtain the level of Representative Game Scorer – Recreational (S3), the scorer must evidence the following:

  • Having scored a minimum of 10 matches across 2 consecutive seasons
    • A minimum of 5 of these matches must have been scored on Play-Cricket (PCS Pro).
  • Completion of the MCC Basic Laws test, achieving a mark of 75% or higher during the season of application.
  • Completion of the Linear Scoring Educational Session.
  • Completion of the PCS Pro Educational Session.
  • Completion of the Statistics Educational Session.
  • Completion of a Progression Discussion with a Scorer Developer.

Scorers must also meet the required competencies for Representative Game Scorer – Recreational (S3), which can be found here: S3 competencies

The scorer applying for promotion is responsible for ensuring that evidence of meeting the above criteria is sent to the County ACO Lead Scorer – Development.

Representative Game Scorer – Recreational (S3) to Representative Game Scorer – Professional (S2)

In order to obtain the level of Representative Game Scorer – Professional (S2), the scorer must evidence the following:

  • Having scored a minimum of 10 games across 2 consecutive seasons at the S2 Level
    • All matches scored to be on Professional Database.
  • Completion of the MCC Basic Laws test, achieving a mark of 75% or higher during the season of application.
  • Completion of the ECB Scoring Authorisation.
  • Completion of a Progression Discussion with a Scorer Developer.

Scorers must also meet the required competencies for Representative Game Scorer – Professional (S2), which can be found here:  S2 competencies

The scorer applying for promotion is responsible for ensuring that evidence of meeting the above criteria is sent to the County ACO Lead Scorer – Development.

Representative Game Scorer (S2) to Professional Game Scorer (S1)

In order to obtain the level of Professional Game Scorer (S1), the scorer must evidence the following:

  • Having scored a minimum of 15 games across 2 consecutive seasons at the S2 Level
    • All matches scored to be on Professional Database.
  • Completion of MCC Basic Laws test, achieving a mark of 75% or higher during the season of application.
  • Completion of the ECB Scoring Development Programme.
  • Completion of a Progression Discussion with a Scorer Developer.

Scorers must also meet the required competencies for Professional Game Scorer (S1), which can be found here:  S1 competencies

The scorer applying for promotion is responsible for ensuring that evidence of meeting the above criteria is sent to the National ACO Lead Scorer – Development.

Please note that achievement of Professional Game Scorer (S1) grade does not guarantee opportunities to score in professional cricket due to the volume of eligible scorers, with limited professional scoring opportunities available.

MCC Laws of the Game Test

As detailed above Scorers must complete a specified MCC Laws of the Game test to be eligible for promotion. The MCC Laws of the Game exams can be accessed here: MCC Laws Test
